Test For Asbestos

Before you start the ceiling process, it is essential to make sure that your ceiling does not have asbestos. Asbestos was a toxic ingredient people used in textured popcorn ceilings. The Right Tools

If your ceiling is asbestos-free, then we can continue the removal process. Having the right tools will help us to get better results when removing the popcorn ceiling. This includes:

• A sprayer
• A wide scraper 
• Drop cloths or plastic sheets
• Painter’s tape
• Ladder
• Safety glasses
• Dust mask

Protect Walls and Floors

We will remove the furniture, take down the ceiling fans and lights, and then cover the walls and floor with drop sheets. We will also make sure to cover the electrical boxes with tape to protect the wires from water. 

Wet The Ceiling

Since a wet scrape is easier than a dry scrape, we will use a sprayer to wet a small area; it could be a four-by-four-foot section. We do this since if we spray a large section, the areas will dry before reaching them. 

Scrap Away The Popcorn Ceiling

We use a wide scraper and run it along with the wet ceiling. We work, piece by piece, carefully to avoid making holes.

Sand and Paint The Ceiling

We will use a sealant to protect and repair the ceiling in case of any damage and then sanding to get a smooth texture. The last step is to give a fresh coat of paint to the ceiling, and once it is complete, we will remove the plastic sheeting and reinstall the lights and fans to enjoy your newly smooth ceiling.
